ISMAR 2014 will cover the FULL range of technologies encompassed by the Mixed
Reality
spectrum, from interfaces in the real world to fully immersive experiences.
Augmented Reality (AR) and Mixed Reality (MR) melt the barriers between virtual media, the physical world and our imagination by enriching our ability to interact with all three. New applications in diverse areas such as Engineering, Entertainment, Arts, Education Media and Humanities push the boundaries of science and technology. As the premier conference in the field, ISMAR is responding to this evolution by expanding the program scope.
ISMAR 2014 will be held in Munich Germany. Munich is the capital and largest city of the German state of Bavaria. It is located on the River Isar north of the Bavarian Alps. Munich is the third largest city in Germany, after Berlin and Hamburg. About 1.56 million people live within the city limits.
The official ISMAR 2014 program is available for download here
ISMAR will be held from 8th-12th September 2014 in Munich at the Garching campus. The program schedule for ISMAR can be here.

Please note that Early registration ends Aug 15, 2014 11:59pm PST.
In recent years, Mixed and Augmented Reality has been expanding from an exciting research field into a commercially viable technology. The field is highly interdisciplinary, combining work in diverse disciplines, ranging from human centered research into user interfaces, interaction techniques, education, design, human factors, wearable computing and mobile computing, through more technology oriented research including computer graphics, display technology, computer vision, sensors, signal processing and computer networking. The growing interest in M&AR applications is creating new challenges for research in all of these areas.
A list of accepted papers can be found here.
Posters represent work-in-progress and are at most two pages long. The posters are presented in three batches, where authors are required to be present. The posters will be on display throughout the conference.
A list of accepted posters can be found here.
ISMAR 2014 workshops are a complementary forum to the main conference. They are interactive events involving participants. ISMAR workshops provide a platform for presentations of novel work, work in progress and position papers. ISMAR workshops also serve as a platform to actively experience the insights of a variety of pervasive computing topics in seminars.
An overview on the ISMAR workshops can be found here.
The purpose of the ISMAR tutorials is to expand the knowledge of the AR/MR community and foster the next generation of AR/MR researchers, developers, and artists. Experts, pioneers, and experienced developers and artists present tutorials that target a specific application area, a specific research area, or a topic of general interest for mixed or augmented reality. Topics range from introductory for AR/MR novices to highly technical for AR/MR researchers. Tutorials are half or full day tutorials, depending on the scope of topics covered and the presenters available.
An overview on the ISMAR tutorials can be found here.
The Industry Day will gather professionals and scientist interested in the commercial use of Mixed and Augmented Reality and the latest available solutions in the market.
With a growing interest from the Enterprise and Consumer sectors in the application of Augmented Reality, a selected list of panelists will present and discuss their experience and vision. Use cases, roadblocks and the latest breakthroughs in commercialised technology will showcase how both public and private research impacts our daily lives. Open discussions in different areas will help the audience grasp what is needed to make this industry a success.
You can find all about the Industry Day here.
The ISMAR demonstration track is the hands-on part of the conference for showcasing the latest research and engaging with the ISMAR attendees. Demonstration can take the shape of a live, interactive demo, a lab/corporate exhibition, an interactive art exploration or any combination of these.
The list of accepted demos can be found here.
The interface is the boundary across which information is exchanged, causing a transformation in one or both sides of that boundary. This exhibition features art that disrupts or bypasses this interface. Interfaces have always been a site of control, hidden in plain view: symbolic, social or technological. They facilitate and shape the dialogue that happens between different tribes from religions, scientific or philosophical backgrounds; between components of computer systems; or between machines and living beings.
More information on the Art Exhibition can be found here.
Vision-based tracking technologies, especially used for tracking of vehicle components, are one of the most crucial basis-technologies required for a widespread application of Augmented Reality in the automotive and industrial domain. The competition aims to provide a forum for scientific exchange between researchers from academia and industry, as well as an opportunity to get in contact with potential customers in the environment of the Volkswagen Group.
Details on the Volkswagen Tracking Challenge can be found here.
The 3rd ISMAR Doctoral Consortium (DC) will take place as part of ISMAR 2014, on the evening of September 8th and all day on September 9th. The goal of the Doctoral Consortium is to create an opportunity for PhD students to present their research, discuss their current progress and plans, and receive constructive criticism and guidance regarding their work and future career objectives. The Doctoral Consortium is structured around doctoral students presentations and in-depth discussions between the students and mentors.
You can find more about the Doctoral Consortium here.
You can find all about the AR Games Project here.
ISMAR 2014 will be held in Munich Germany. Munich is the capital and largest city of the German state of Bavaria. It is located on the River Isar north of the Bavarian Alps. The main ISMAR conference will take place at the Garching campus of the Technical University Munich, which is accessible from the city center by train. There are a number of options for places to stay in Munich, however bookings should be made well in advance, as it is peak season for tourists.
TU Munich
Computer Science Building ("FMI Gebäude")
Boltzmannstr. 3
Garching bei München
The conference location is within a 3 minute walk from the terminal station "Garching Forschungszentrum" of the subway line "U6". Follow the signs to the Department of "Informatik" or "Mathematik", leaving the subway station in the direction where the train came from (i.e. against the direction of travel). Outside, you will see the FMI Building straight ahead (2 o'clock direction).
If you come by car, take the Autobahn A9 north of the center of Munich. Take exit 70 "Garching Nord". Then turn right, go across the next traffic light, go straight until the street makes a sharp turn to the left (90 degrees), and you are right at the parking lot of the FMI building - on your left. (It's less than 5 minutes from the A9 to the parking lot).
